Women have unfairly been called the weaker sex for way too long and the time has now come to change it. Women are, in no way, lesser than men. Whether it is about the IQ levels or the capacity to work hard, women are always at par with men. 

By taking up a full-time job or plunging into the world of entrepreneurship by selling jewellery online, there are many ways in which women can become financially independent these days. Women need to earn to become financially independent as it is crucial. As much as we may hate to admit, money actually is the most important thing in life and a person’s happiness and wellbeing are largely dependent on money. 

This is why women need to start earning to ensure they are in total and complete charge of their own happiness and wellbeing. This is a very vital reason why women should be financially independent. But what are the other reasons?  Here are a few more: 

To prepare for emergencies: 

It is very common to find families where the man of the house goes to work and earns a livelihood while the woman stays at home to take care of the family. While this is perfectly alright, a vast number of such families suffer horrendously when the breadwinner faces some sort of eventualities such as a job loss or death. With no other source of income, the family plunges into hard times. To ensure your family never faces such troubled times, start earning.  You are your husband’s better half and your family’s best member! You just need to have an income so that you can be prepared for any emergency and contribute as and when needed.

To share expenses:

Sharing is caring, in case of expenses also. If you want to share a part of the home renovation cost along with your father/brother/husband, you should be able to proudly do it. You shouldn’t have to compromise on your expenses just because the money you receive from the family is insufficient. Be financially so strong that you can manage and share expenses for yourself and the family. 

To boost confidence :

Women who are financially independent are definitely more confident. Financial Independence allows a woman to enjoy a higher-self worth and that boosts her confidence immensely. So basically, when you are financially independent, you are confident, happier and this makes you mentally fitter as well. 

To break free from challenging relationships:

A financially independent woman can make her own life choices. If she wishes to break free from a challenging relationship, she can walk out with her head held high and without any fear in her mind. Money buys you freedom and your financial independence can indeed be your passport for a happy and stress-free life.

To benefit the nation:

If you take a close look at the list of toppers of any examination at any level, you will notice that a vast majority of the toppers are girls. But when it comes to the corporate boardrooms, we are very unlikely to see a majority of women there. Sadly, some of the most talented and meritorious female students give up their careers and devote themselves to their families. This doesn't only harm their own prospects, it also dents the progress of the nation. The country needs the best minds to progress and if more and more women join the workforce, the country’s GDP is bound to shoot up.

To validate your education:

India is a country that has some of the most educated women in the world. A survey conducted by a leading educational institute showed that women are a lot less likely to drop out of colleges and universities than men. As a result, we have a large number of highly-qualified women who shy away from a career. Make your degrees work for you. Put your education to good use and earn the best income you can, because, with your intelligence and skill levels, you deserve to be in the best position. 

No one can do it like you:

As a woman, you are empathetic and extremely nurturing. There is no one like you and the contribution you make to an organization is priceless. Play your role and give back to society while you make your bank account ring with your salary as well.  A woman wears many hats and it's a woman’s superpower to know how to juggle the various responsibilities at home and at work. So get to work, earn a handsome salary and pull the right strings to manage the house as well.

To eradicate the problems of unemployment :

50% of a country’s population is female. In our country, as well as many other countries, unemployment is a major issue. And unemployment is not dependent on any gender - it strikes men and women. If 50% of the population decides to get employed and financially independent, the problem of unemployment will instantly begin to decrease. 

To be a role model:

And finally, as a woman, you need to be a positive role model for other women around you, whether it is your own daughter or a neighbour who looks up to you. When you become financially independent and enjoy all the perks associated with it, you set up a wonderful example for the women around you. It encourages them to become financially independent too and then there is a fantastic chain reaction. Be the change and see a wider change that would benefit the entire society.

Incorrectly referred to as the weaker sex, women are actually much stronger than men in all areas. From being able to birth a child to endure tremendous levels of mental stress, a woman displays immense amounts of strength throughout her lifetime. It is therefore quite degrading for her to be confined within the four walls of her home for the better part of her life. If you are a woman who is educated or skilled or both, take the plunge and start your journey towards financial independence right away. There are many avenues to explore and many careers to pursue. Being financially independent is of utmost importance because no matter what, your happiness, freedom, and peace of mind should never be dependent on anyone else - you should be the boss and get whatever you want on your own terms.
