The pandemic did not just impact a certain section of society - it affected the entire world! In India alone, lakhs and lakhs of families were hit by the illness. While some have been lucky to see recovery and the return of a loved one, others have lost everything. Apart from the loss of precious lives, families have also lost their money, and in some cases, all their savings, to get a loved one treated. Deaths have brought forth further problems for the family as now they don't have a breadwinner and they don't have any money to sustain either. A mess, that’s what it is! The lessons learned here are:

Get health insurance

People struggled to pay their hospital bills. This majorly happened because of the lack of health insurance. Many people who had health covers managed to get treated without a worry, while others did not. The absolutely crucial lesson learned here is that health insurance is a vital requirement of life.
Takeaway: The pandemic has proved that life and health are unpredictable and so you need the support of good health insurance coverage for the entire family.

Get life insurance

Close to about two lakh people lost their lives due to the pandemic in India alone. Can you fathom what happens to their families now?  Many even died without leaving life insurance coverage.
Takeaway: The lesson learned here is that everyone needs life insurance. If you are the primary breadwinner or an active contributor to your family, get life insurance right away. You do not know what surprise life will throw at you tomorrow, so stay covered and ensure your loved ones are protected as well.

What has the ongoing pandemic taught us about health and family?

Many people hung their boots up, sat on the couch, and relaxed while enjoying a paid vacation during the pandemic. But sadly, this was not the case for most women in India. Stories about women struggling to cook, clean, and juggle their professional lives were heard every day. This pointed fingers towards some alarming trends and bright forth some important lessons like:

Sharing the load

Many women unfairly toiled and struggled from dawn to dusk, tending to the needs of the family while attending official calls, video meetings, etc. If you were one of them, you know the struggle was real. But was this really fair? Take huge learning out of this and inculcate the idea of “sharing the load” in your family.
Takeaway: Henceforth, designate jobs to all members of your family, and ensure the duties are duly carried out.

Invest in mental health

Loss of jobs, uncertainty, and boredom were some of the reasons that caused havoc on people’s mental health. Mental health problems surged and it affected relationships too. Couples divorced, grown-up children moved out and joint families segregated into nuclear families. We got to hear many, many such accounts every day during the pandemic. This has shown just how fragile our mental health is and also told us how important it is to take good and regular care of it.
Takeaway: You should never ignore the negative feelings harboring in your mind because one day they will burst out and wreck your relationships.

Connect with your loved ones

The pandemic was hard and people who stayed together sailed through it. This was another lesson we all learned this year. Many people finally had the time to reconnect with their families and spend a lot of time with their loved ones. This had a positive impact on their lives and overall health and happiness.
Takeaway: Do not wait till another pandemic to go home and hug your parents. Just do it all the time.

The pandemic has not been easy financially or emotionally. However, it has taught us some invaluable lessons. It has taught us that life goes on, no matter what. It has also taught that diversification is important. It has taught us that companionship and love can see us through the worst of times. And overall, it has shown us our inner strength. It has proved that a woman is a true captain who can weather all storms and steer the ship of her family to safety, no matter what the situation around her is.
